Invisible mending is a specialist repair technique where individual threads are carefully taken from the unseen interior of your garment and rewoven, one by one, to repair holes, tears, or burns. This means that the pattern, colour and weave will be meticulously matched to appear the same as the original, and the repair will last for the lifetime of the garment.
The minimum turnaround time for invisible mending is three weeks. Repairs for holes up to 5 mm in diameter start from $100, with final pricing based on the complexity of the repair. Invisibility typically ranges between 70% and 95%, with an estimated result confirmed as part of your quote.
This service is available at selected LookSmart stores in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch, and Auckland.
While invisible mending can be an effective way to bring your clothes back to their original state, it’s not suitable for every garment or fabric. Instead, it works best when the damage is small and the surrounding fabric is still intact. This means that it is best suited to:
– Small holes and tears
– Burns and scorch marks
– Snags and pulls
– Moth damage
– Localised damage to wool and woven fabrics
We find that results are the best on darker colours and softer materials, while very fine, stiff, or synthetic fabrics are less suitable for this type of repair.

If you you will like to go ahead with invisible mending after receiving your online quote, follow the steps below:
1. Simply insert a safety pin where the hole is.
2. Insert garment along with a printed copy of your quote (make sure you sign the quote form), return address and mobile number into an Express Post satchel and send it to our Head Office (see address below).
3. Our Invisible Mender will work on your garment and we will notify you as soon as it is completed. If there is any additional cost from the online quote you will be notified prior to commencing your mending.

No. Invisible mending is only offered at selected LookSmart stores in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch, and Auckland. Availability can vary by store, so it’s best to check our map to see the closest store offering invisible mending.
Invisible mending is more specialised than standard repairs, so it does cost more than typical alterations. Our prices start from $100 for mending up to 5mm in diameter, with the final cost depending on the fabric type and complexity of the repair.
We can give you an exact quote, and we won’t start work until this has been approved by you.
Visible mending uses stitches like embroidery or patches that might be visible and are often decorative.
Invisible mending rebuilds the fabric thread by thread, using the garment’s own threads. This leads to a repair that blends in as closely as possible with the original material.
Absolutely. When used on suitable fabrics and damage types, invisible mending can be very effective. Results typically range between 70% and 95% invisible, depending on the fabric, colour, and size of the damage.
Invisible mending can significantly improve the appearance of damaged areas, but it won’t always make a garment look completely brand new. In most cases, your repair will be between 70% and 95% invisible. When you contact us, we can give you a more exact level of inviability to expect based on your garment.
